This is my list of tips on preparing for your branding photography session. A little prep goes a long way in getting the absolute most out of your session! You want images that serve a purpose, which can be used in multiple ways & most importantly that you like!
What you wear will help define the message you want to portray. What is your business? Do you wear a uniform? Knowing what your business does & how you engage with your ideal clients is important when it comes to clothing choice.
Really important this one I reckon! Choose clothes that you like and feel comfortable in. If you feel uncomfortable, this will show up in your photos. You don’t want to be tugging at your top/skirt/pants/shirt whatever it may be. So clothes that fit well & that you like are a big must.
What do you normally wear in interactions with your clients/customers. Is your personal style quirky & vibrant? Or are you a bit a more conservative? Stick with what comes naturally to your personal style, just think of it as polishing your look up a bit when it comes to your branding photography session.
HAIR & MAKEUP
If you normally wear make up then I’d recommend getting a professional Hair & Makeup artist to get you camera ready. These guys are like wizards in my book! They know which colours suit you best, and they can create a variety of looks based on your personal style.
They’ll always have a discussion with you about what you normally do and how you’d like your makeup done for the shoot. Plus, they know how to use makeup so it will photograph well, which is super important in my book.
But, if you’re a dab hand at doing your own hair & makeup, have the confidence to pull it off (I have zero capability in this space!! haha!) and know what you like and how to achieve it, then I say go for it!
You know what works for you, so go with your gut on this one.
Depending on what your business is, there’s probably a few things you use in your business all the time. Number one - your laptop, or tablet device. Who doesn’t have one of those these days?
Diary/Calendar/Notebook - any one of these, unless you’re completely paperless, then we can get creative with using your laptop/device for some neat flat lays.
Nice pens, stationery etc, you get the drift.
Flowers always add a nice touch too.
These neat little flat lays are all the rage on Instagram and other social media channels. We’re basically creating a stock photo library of anything to do with your business. You won’t ever be wringing your hands again, thinking ‘what the actual heck am I going to post on social media today’?
It all depends on the business you have, that’s something I’ll always discuss with you, so you’re getting the most out of the session. We would plan everything out so we’re creating photographs you can use everywhere in your business.
The possibilities here are endless! This is the real fun part I reckon! I love location scouting, it’s great to hop in the car and go exploring Brisbane to find the right spot which help tell your business story.
If you have a bricks & mortar store we would start there for sure, as your store front is a key part of your business.
